When people think about making coffee, most people run to the coffee maker but you can try a new way by using the process of cold water extraction to make your next cup of coffee. Producing your next cup of coffee with using the cold water extraction process below you can reduce the acidity of the coffee that creates heartburn. Using this method of coffee may also reduce the amount of caffeine that you are consuming in each cup, by as much as 25% per cup.
Cold Water Extraction Coffee Process
Items needed to complete a cold water extraction coffee:
- 1 French Press
- 1 wooden spoon
- 1 cup of ground coffee
- 4 cups of cold water
- 1 sealable container
Step 1. Remove lid from French press and pour 1 cup of coffee in.
Step 2. Pour 4 cups of cold water into the French press.
Step 3. Stir the water and coffee until all the grounds are moist
Step 4. Replace lid without pushing plunger down
Step 5. Allow the mixture to sit roughly 12 hours.
Step 6. Slowly press the plunger down to seperate the water from the grinds.
Step 7. Pour the water into the sealable container. This can be stored in the refrigerator up to 14 days.
Once your cold water extraction of coffee has been completed, you may serve it in many different ways. There are also many different ways to change the taste simply by altering the amount of coffee, amount of water, or the amount of time the mixture is left to sit.
You can serve the cold water extraction coffee either hot or cold. If you choose hot, simply place 1/4 cup of extract into a cup and then fill the rest with hot water, or if you choose cold, you can place over ice.
